Company Solo/Duo/Trio Agreement

Solos/duos/trios are a wonderful way to get one-on-one instruction, further your dance training, and push yourself outside of your regular class time. We highly encourage company students Junior level through Senior Select level to do a solo/duo/trio, but it is not required. Solo/duo/trio pieces are a huge responsibility and require a lot of work in and outside of rehearsal time. How hard you choose to work will show on stage and in your performances. Take pride in your work as a dancer and represent your choreographer, your studio, and yourself as best you can!

We have an approved list of choreographers that you may choose to work with. These choreographers have their own pricing, required rehearsal time, and agreements made with the dancer(s) who selects them to create their solo/duo/trio piece. We have included a list below with the approved choreographers you are able to work with including their contact information. You are responsible for contacting the teacher that you are interested in working with, and they will be able to give you their pricing and more information. You and your choreographer can discuss what style of dance and song choice will work best.

This document will be used to outline Parker Dance Academy’s expectations for you as a dancer choosing to learn, rehearse, and perform/compete a solo/duo/trio for the 2021-2022 competition season. When signing this document, you are agreeing to taking on the responsibilities that come with having a solo/duo/trio. All company dancers must sign this form if they choose to do a solo/duo/trio, even if you have not decided yet. Signing this form does not commit you to doing a solo/duo/trio, so you may sign and later decide not to do a solo/duo/trio. You may need to sign an additional solo agreement form depending on your choreographer.

You understand and agree that you must begin your solo/duo/trio by October 1st, 2021, or have been in contact, committed to and agreed upon a rehearsal plan with your choreographer before this date. Dancers who have not begun, been in contact with, or committed to a choreographer before October 1st, 2021 may not be allowed to compete their solo/duo/trio at the first competition.

*Senior Select, Senior Company, and Teen Select dancers may begin solos as late as January if they are working with an outside choreographer that has limited availability, but they must be in contact with their chosen choreographer by October 1st, 2021.

You understand and agree that Ms. Kat (Company Coordinator) and/or Ms. Lexie (Studio Director) reserves the right to pull a solo/duo/trio entry from competition using their professional opinion in agreement with the choreographer, if they do not feel that the solo/duo/trio is performance ready.

We will take appropriate measures to ensure that all dancers are ready to compete their solo/duo/trio by the first competition, but you understand that this may be a result of consistently missed rehearsals, and/or lack of practice outside of rehearsal time. Choreographers will work with you to reschedule rehearsals should there be a cancellation.

You understand and agree that as a parent/guardian of a dancer choosing to participate in a solo/duo/trio, it is important that you check in with the choreographer on your dancer’s progress to see if any additional rehearsal time may be needed. Solo/duo/trios are a big responsibility and can require extra time outside of rehearsals whether it be at home or booking additional studio space. Dancers with the support of their parent/guardian and choreographer working together feel and look more prepared for the stage by the first competition. This open communication helps to prevent the possibility of the solo/duo/trio entry being pulled from a competition if it is not ready.

You understand and agree that additional fees apply outside of what is paid to your choreographer. This includes competition entry fees which can range from $100-$150, but sometimes more depending on the competition.

You understand and agree that additional costuming fees may apply. Costumes may be rented from our costume closet, purchased through a dance catalog, or purchased through other retail stores.

There will be NO refunds given if:

–  The solo/duo/trio is not complete-ready by the beginning of competition season after any hours have been spent in the studio (it’s important to attend all scheduled or rescheduled privates).

– You choose not to compete your solo after any hours have been spent in the studio.

– Not all hours are used by the end of competition season.

– The dancer decides to drop out of company.
