What is Company FAQs

Why to consider joining Company?

Company is an opportunity for a dancer to further their personal potential in dance while developing life skills such as hard work, commitment, time management, confidence and poise, to name a few……and all this within the context of a beautiful and expressive art form that builds a strong social group in a safe and focused environment! Take advantage of this opportunity for your child to flourish, have fun, and develop as an artist and performer!

What does being in company mean?

Our company is our competition team that competes and performs at dance competitions and attend convention classes throughout the Spring at different hotels and locations around Colorado.

Competitions bring additional performance experiences with feedback from judges that encourage growth for dancers as they develop as performers.  Additionally, the conventions (that often accompany competitions) provide exposure to new styles and ways of dancing that foster self improvement.

This commitment is August-April and calls for required classes to be taken during the week based on the dancer’s placement.  Our company dancers are provided extra opportunities to learn choreography from professional dancers/choreographers. But are also held to a higher standard for attendance and work ethic as they represent their team and studio.

Who can be in company?

Any and all dancers ages 7 and above are eligible to audition for company as long as they have been taking dance classes for at least one year in any style. It is an additional opportunity for any dancer who wants to take their dancing to the next level.

What is required of a company dancer?

Depending on the age and company group that your dancer is placed in after auditions, we require that they take certain technique classes throughout the week in addition to a private company class. This company class will serve as technique class and rehearsal time for the dancers to learn their competition dance and is built into their weekly schedule.

What does it cost to be a company dancer?

Once your dancer has auditioned and results are posted, you will receive a packet that discusses the additional costs and class requirements. Because company is an “extra-curricular” activity at the studio, there will be “company membership” fees in addition to your regular monthly tuition. The required company and technique classes during the week are paid as regular monthly tuition to the studio and not included in the company membership fees. The company membership fees will include choreography, costumes, company jackets, a company party, and admin fees. *Please note that competition entry/registration fees are not included in the “company membership” costs, but we will outline what they generally are in the company packet

Considering joining company but not sure if it right for you?

We suggest coming to the auditions, seeing what company you get placed in and it’s costs and requirements, and then you can make the choice to accept or decline. Auditioning does not mean you are required to participate, nor does it mean you are guaranteed a spot if we do not feel you are ready.

Company Auditions FAQs

What should my student wear to auditions?

Ballet Auditions: Black leotard and pink tights, hair off face in a bun or a twist.  Dancers may perform the variation in ballet flat shoes or pointe shoes.
Contemporary/Jazz Auditions: All students auditioning should wear a black leotard and either black shorts or leggings. No color or large lettering please! Dancers should have their hair off their face. Bring their jazz shoes (students over the age of 13 should also bring socks they can dance in).

When should we arrive before auditions?

Please arrive AT LEAST 15mins early, we will be at the front desk to check you in and  have a studio designated for the students to go in and start warming up. Please make sure you have filled out your audition form so we have a number ready for you and have noted your  prefered method of payment for the audition fee. When you register we will give your student a number, please write this number down somewhere as it will tell you what company your student has been placed in when results come out.

What do we need to bring?

Please fill out a  Company Audition Registration form.  A water bottle and for dancers attending multiple auditions a healthy snack and/or lunch is also recommended.  For Intermediate/Advanced dancers auditioning for Ballet or Contemporary/Jazz companies please note the required audition materials.

When do company results come out?

Results will come out 1 to 2 weeks after auditions. They will be posted on the website.

Why don’t we get the company packets before auditions?

We try to be very open and flexible with our company groups. Basing them on the students we have and where they will be most successful. So we have decided to wait until after auditions to solidify the groups and their requirements. This being said, we understand that this might be more of a commitment than you are ready for, and you won’t understand that until you receive the packets. So if you audition and make it into a company then, after reviewing the packet, you can choose not to participate and that is okay. Auditioning does not mean you are required to participate and auditioning in itself is a great experience and lesson all on its own.

If I do make it into company and want to participate, what do I do next?

When the results come out will release the company packets on the website, these will have information on what classes your student should take and all the requirements for the company they have been placed in. There will be a contract on the last page of these packets, please print that, fill it out and return it to the front desk the week following the audition.

What are the summer company requirements?

All students participating in company are required to the Week of Dance Intensive at the end of July (details for this intensive can be found on summer registration page). Any students who are unable to participate in this intensive, due to previous commitments, must contact us immediately following company results to discuss alternatives. Summer camps at the studio are also highly encouraged for all students who are hoping to keep up and grow in their technique during the summer.
